When shopping for whey protein in India, you will encounter two main types: whey concentrate and whey isolate. Both come from the same source, but they differ in protein content, lactose levels, and price. Here is how to choose the right one for your needs.
What is Whey Concentrate?
Whey concentrate (WPC) is the most common and affordable form of whey protein. It typically contains 70-80% protein by weight, with the remaining 20-30% being fats, carbs (including lactose), and other nutrients.
Concentrate retains more of the beneficial compounds found naturally in whey, including immunoglobulins and lactoferrin. It also tends to have a creamier taste due to its fat content.
What is Whey Isolate?
Whey isolate (WPI) undergoes additional processing to remove more fat and lactose. The result is a product that is 90%+ protein by weight, with very little fat or carbs.
Isolate is a better choice if you are lactose intolerant, on a strict low-carb diet, or want maximum protein per scoop. However, it costs more than concentrate.
Head-to-Head Comparison
- Protein per serving: Isolate wins (25-27g vs 22-24g per 30g scoop)
